Daycare...

On Friday we are meeting with four different daycares to try and find one that fits us. So far we are only looking at three smaller centers, and then one bigger one (New Horizon). I am already leaning more towards a smaller one, but we will see what we like. I just think a smaller one will be nice because our kid would get more attention.

I know several people that swear by in-home daycare but I have a couple different issues with that, and yes these are total assumptions so do not jump down my throat for saying this. My first issue is that most of the bad stories you hear about children dying or getting hurt happen at in-home daycare's. Second, if your child care provider is sick, you have to also take sick time. And three, if your day care provider goes on vacation, you have to go on vacation. I don't want to have to plan my vacations around someone elses schedule, thank you very much!

I also have some issues with centers so don't get your undies in a bunch. I would love the personalized service that you could get at an in home, but I also think a small center would do a sufficient job.

So...the point of this is I was wondering if you all had some good questions that I could ask. I have a list but I was wondering if anyone had any key questions that either could make it or break it for us.

Also...I have another questions. One of the places is the place our neighbors take their duaghter to, and they like it a lot, but I called them twice and never got a return call and then finally I called this morning and talked to someone and set up a meeting. Would you guys be turned off by the fact that no one ever called me back? And would you ask them about that? Because I am certainly tempted to ask something like, how long on average does it take you to get back to a parent if they call with a concern? If they wouldn't have answered this morning I was going to give up....
Please let me know any good questions you have!

Thanks so much!

I think the returned calls should be a factor, but not the only factor. You really have to visit them, see the kids there in their environment, & of course it helps if you know people who have experience with them. Ultimately, you make the best decision you can as a parent. There are no right or wrong answers. Just what works for you & Don. Good luck!!

Even though its blatantly obvious, I have never even thought about the fact that at home day cares require you to be at the whim of the person there...Their sick or on vacation, you're screwed!
I wouldn't rule out the place that didn't call you back, but I would definitely bring it to their attention and find out if there is more to it than that.
